Cristiano Ronaldo's thoughts on Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo Gives Harsh View on Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United

In a candid interview with former teammate Rio Ferdinand on FIVEUK, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his strong views on Manchester United's current state, highlighting the need for a complete rebuild. Ronaldo, a club legend who left the Red Devils in 2022, believes the club must adopt a more competitive mindset to regain its past glory.

"Manchester United, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion," Ronaldo stated. He criticised the team's mentality, particularly referencing the statements made by United's management regarding their chances in major competitions like the Premier League and Champions League. "As a Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you're not going to fight to win the League or Champions League. You have to be, to mentally say, listen, maybe we don't have that potential, but I cannot say that. We're going to try."

For Ronaldo, it's not just about the club's physical rebuild but also a shift in mentality. He believes that even if the squad lacks the strength to compete with Europe's elite, the club must project a fighting spirit. "You have to try," Ronaldo emphasised, urging the club to aim high, regardless of the obstacles.

Ronaldo goes onto mention Ruud van Nistelrooy and other Manchester United legends, and underscores the importance of leveraging the experience of former players who deeply understand the club's culture. By saying, "If Erik ten Hag listens to Ruud, maybe he can help at United," Ronaldo suggests that integrating figures like van Nistelrooy—who achieved great success during his time at Old Trafford—could provide invaluable insights into restoring the club's winning mentality.

Ronaldo extends this belief to other United icons such as Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Sir Alex Ferguson, emphasising the value of their collective wisdom. He implies that these individuals, who lived through United’s most dominant years, have a unique understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level. Ronaldo’s comments hint at a disconnect between the current management and the club’s illustrious past and his strong views probably come as no surprise to Manchester United fans. Ronaldo truly believes reconnecting with that history through these figures could provide the motivation and strategy necessary to guide the club back to the top.
