Why Victor Osimhen Could be a Game Changer for Manchester United

Why Victor Osimhen Could be a Game Changer for Manchester United

Manchester United’s attack has struggled this season, and while Rasmus Højlund has shown promise, he currently lacks key traits needed to thrive in this team. Amorim’s United currently aren’t the most creative side given Bruno Fernandes is the only consistent playmaker — so a striker who can potentially help create his own chances is essential. That’s where Victor Osimhen comes in.

At 26, Osimhen is in his prime and would offer qualities Højlund lacks. One of United’s biggest issues is holding up play and linking with teammates. Højlund often struggles to control the ball under pressure, limiting United’s ability to build attacks. If Onana goes long, it often ends in a turnover as Hojlund can’t hold the ball up or the opposition end up winning the second ball. Osimhen, however, is physically dominant, can shield the ball well, and bring others into play, making him a more complete No.9.

Another major issue is movement. Højlund’s positioning is still developing, and he often doesn’t get enough shots away. According to StatMuse, Højlund has an average of just 0.40 shots on target per match in his last 10 matches in the Premier League. Lack of service or not, this is a damning statistic for a Manchester United striker. Osimhen, on the other hand, has elite movement—he consistently finds space in the box, creating shooting opportunities even without top-tier service. Victor Osimhen has played 17 matches for Galatasaray in the Super Lig where he has taken a total of 63 shots, with 31 of them on target. Granted the Premier League is a much more competitive league, according to FootyStats, this results in an average of approximately 3.71 shots per game and 1.82 shots on target per game. His shooting accuracy stands at 49.21%, and he has scored 12 goals, averaging 0.83 goals per 90 minutes. Osimhen’s ability to anticipate play would also be crucial in a side that doesn’t create a high volume of chances.

What sets the Nigerian striker apart is his ability to create something out of nothing. Whether it’s dribbling past defenders, unleashing powerful shots from distance, or using his speed to break behind defensive lines, he isn’t solely reliant on service. In a team that struggles to break down deep blocks, having a striker who can manufacture goals himself is invaluable.

Beyond his on-field attributes, Osimhen’s character marked by resilience and a never-give-up attitude aligns with the kind of mentality United fans appreciate and feel the club is currently lacking. The fact he has openly expressed his admiration for the club as a boyhood fan only strengthens the idea of him potentiallyholding up the famous red jersey. His passion and desire, combined with the fact he will undoubtedly bring goals to this struggling team, could make him a talismanic figure and future cult hero at Old Trafford.

Signing Osimhen wouldn’t just improve United’s attack—it would elevate the entire team. He’s a proven goalscorer, a more well-rounded striker than Højlund with the experience we require, and exactly the kind of player United need to take their attack to the next level.
